What To Expect //

Before your appointment

We will make every effort to contact you and confirm your appointment date and time. We will also help you with any directions needed to get to our facilities. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Please note, because we do use conscious sedation, it is extremely important that you remain fasting for at least 8 hours prior to your procedure. We consider your safety our number one priority and want to minimize your risk of complications. If you have any concerns or are a diabetic and need further instructions, please call us and we will gladly assist.

On the day of your appointment

Once you arrive at our facility, we will ask you to please complete any remaining paper work and invite you to ask any questions that you may have. We want this to be an empowering experience. We will then perform any interventions as needed in our state-of-the-art procedure room. After the procedure, you will be assisted to the post-op area to recover.

After your appointment

You become a family member as soon as you walk through our doors and our care does not end when you leave. We will contact and send a detailed report of your procedure to your referring parties (dialysis units/physicians). If you have any concerns about your procedure or post-operative care, please give us a call. We are available 24 hours of every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Drive Myself?

No. Due to the potential for use of medications that cause sedation and pain relief, it would be unsafe to allow you to drive. Please make arrangements for transportation to and from your appointment. Please call us if you have no other means of transportation.

How Long Will My Procedure Take?

Procedure time varies due to the type and complexity of your procedure. Some take several minutes and others may last up to an hour. It is important to budget approximately 2-3 hours for your visit. This ensures that we dedicate as much time as needed to address your concerns while prioritizing your safety.

Is It Important To Have My Lifeline Evaluated?

Your lifeline is a vital component of your life-sustaining dialysis care. If you or your healthcare team at the dialysis unit have examined your access and determined it needs an evaluation, an intervention may optimize and prolong your lifeline.

What Are Indications That My Lifeline May Need To Be Evaluated?

Often patients can have significant abnormalities in their lifeline but not notice any problems. These are some indicators to be aware of: - Low KT/V or poor clearance - Prolonged bleeding - Pulsatile/pressurized access on exam - Poor venous/arterial flows and frequent alarms - Atypical pain in the extremity or access site - Poor catheter flows - Pulling clots from the access - Difficulty with cannulation

Will I Have Any Pain?

We strive to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. As with all interventions, some pressure and discomfort may be experienced during or after the procedure. Your physician team will be attentive in addressing your pain. Most patients have reported no intra-procedure or post-procedure discomfort.

What Is A Lifeline?

In patients with ESRD, you are dependent on either hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis to sustain life. In order to receive these treatments, you will need a dialysis catheter, AV fistula or AV graft and these are considered your lifeline. We strive to provide you with services to maintain, repair, and optimize your lifeline. Please call us if you have any further questions, we will be glad to address your concerns.
